Doman was a Goringhaiqua leader and interpreter who had travelled to Batavia, worked between Khoikhoi communities and VOC officials, and organized resistance during the First Khoikhoi–Dutch War. He died in 1662, after the peace settlement had left the free-burgher farms and Liesbeeck boundary in place.
